I've had some
unpleasant experiences with
Chilean wines, but I continue to
explore the area because you just can't beat a $6 bottle of wine--assuming it meets certain base
criteria.
This one did and then some. It was a nice, dark red, showing the kind of murkiness you want in a good Cab. I was surprised by the aroma, not for what it contained but what it lacked—the previous Cabernets I've had from the Maipo Valley had a little pleasant hint of mint in the background, but not this one. Instead, it was all fruit and vanilla, but of course that's no bad thing. The taste was full and ripe, with a good concentration of the fruit and backed with some rather confused tannins—not quite firm, not quite light, but definitely present. All in all, a good wine—not great, but good--especially at this price.
