This is her summertime late afternoon
Barefoot, she walks into the back yard carrying two jars filled with water
One with ice, one with reed thin brushes

Under one arm is an overused easel and a pad of thick paper
She sits Indian style under the poplar
Painting greens and yellows
Squinting at blue pieces of sky between branches

As light melts away there will be
Pages full of watercolors that spread into one another
One jar of black water and
One jar empty
