4/4 time

musical term: four beats to a measure, quarter notes get one beat. This is the most basic of time signatures, and is the basis of 2/4 time and 5/4 time.

A simple rhythm or time signature often used in techno. Four beats to the bar, all equally strong. See four on the floor. In techno, this is usually at a speed of around 140 bpm.

Even those like me, with an underdeveloped breakbeat gland can dance to this. On it's own, it would be quite dull, but in good techno, the interest is mantained by layering additional percussion and melodies on top of this rythmic basis.
