Αιχμαγορας

Phialo, the daughter of Alcimede of Arcadia, was loved by Heracles by whom she had a son, Aechmagoras. Alcimede told his daughter to expose him to die and abandoned both her and the child on the mountain. A nearby jay heard the infant's cries and tried to imitate them. Heracles heard echoes of the jay's cries and came to the place where he found his lover and his son. He freed the girl from her bonds and saved them both. A neighbouring spring took the name of Cissa ('the spring of the jay').
