An Italian mountain chain.
The Appennini are the second major mountain chain of Italy, the first one being the Alpi or Alps compared to which the Appennini are lower, and older.
The Appennini chain has a (mostly) North-South orientation and run down the middle of the Italian peninsula, which it divides evenly.
