Yes, I know, a node about noding. However, the more I read the more generalisations I see.

I'm referring to nodes that say "I'm a {foo} and {foo}s like {bar}" and their ilk.

Well, I'm a mother and I like salty licorice, but I'm not prepared to ascribe my preference to every other mother on the planet.

Generalisations and stereotypes have their place (where would comedy be without them?) but they don't belong in a serious node. Making assumptions about what people like or don't like, what they do, or don't do, based on an unrelated category they fit in to is sloppy thinking, and, more often than not, just plain inaccurate.

Please people, don't do this.
