After the changes in the ten cent piece that reflected the designs of other denominations, a new design was created for the dime that was finally breaking away from the rest. In 1892, this new dime was introduced.

Designed by Charles E. Barber, the Barber Dime features Lady Liberty on the obverse, facing right, with shorter hair than on previous designs. "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" encircles nearly the entire obverse, and the year appears at the bottom. The designer's last initial appears at the truncation of Liberty's neck.

The reverse of the coin features a wreath (very similar to the wreaths on the Seated Liberty Designs), encircling the words "ONE DIME". A mint mark appears at the bottom of the reverse.

This design did not undergo any changes, and was retired in 1916.
