Botwood is a small town in central Newfoundland. It is named after Reverend Edward Botwood. Before Botwood was known as Botwood it was known as Botwoodville, and prior to that it was known as Ships Cove.

During World War 2, the people of Botwood were the first on this side of the Atlantic to capture an enemy vessel. Botwood also had fair sized air base that was used for refueling before crossing the Atlantic, and also used for sea planes. During the war 10,000 army and air force troops were stationed at the town at different times.

The main industry in Botwood is shipping. Many Vessels from around the world come to the port. The sheltered bay is also used extensively for sailing, water craft, and pleasure boat excursions.
