Brer was born in Binghamton, New York.
His birth name is Brian Thomas Homa, the son of Linda and Tom.
He moved to New York City in 1999 to pursue a life in music, and has since been featured in the New York Times, the NY Press, the Village Voice, and Antimatters (a defunct underground periodical that no one really cares about aside from a few nostalgic freaks.)
Brer has been evicted, beaten, jailed for recidivism, and hit by motor vehicles twice in his life. Though no longer active, is a member of the Guardian Angels.
In the spring of 2004, Brer was attacked while alone on a subway platform by a violent career felon. Brer werestled him to the ground and made a citizen's arrest.
