Song made famous by the late, great Big Bill Broonzy, also sung in various versions by Leadbelly and even the Grateful Dead. Also known as easy rider (from which the movie got the name), the title was probably a slang term first for the guitar of a traveling bluesman, strapped to his back, and later for a loose woman or his lover, also usually on her back.

chorus: You C C Rider, see what you done done
C C Rider, you see what you done done
You C C Rider, you see what you done done
You done made me love you and now your man don't come

My home is on the water, I don't like no land at all
Home's on the water and I don't like no land at all
My home's on the water and I don't like no land at all
I'd rather be dead than to stay here and be your dog

chorus

I'm goin' away baby, sure don't wanna go
Goin' away baby, but I sure don't wanna go
I'm goin' away baby, but I sure don't wanna go
When I leave this time, you never see me no more

chorus

There are a lot of lyrical variations to this song:

I think Lightning Hopkins version is my favorite....
Bob Wier of the Grateful Dead sang it this way:

________________________________________________

C C Rider, see what you have done
C C Rider, see what you have done
You made me love you, now your man done gone

Well I'm goin' away baby, and I won't be back till fall
Well I'm goin' away baby, and I won't be back till fall
Well if I find me a good girl, I might not be back at all

Well now C, C C Rider, see now the moon is shining bright
Well now C, C C Rider, see now the moon is shining bright
Just might find me that good girl and everything would be alright

Pig Pen also of the Dead sang it this way:

_____________________________________________________

C C Rider, see what you have done
C C Rider, see what you have done
Made me love you, now your man done come

I'm gonna buy me a pistol, long as I am tall
I'm gonna buy me a pistol, long as I am tall
I'm gonna kill that woman, catch that old cannonball

I'm gonna leave on Wednesday, won't be back till Saturday night
I'm gonna leave on Wednesday, won't be back till Saturday night
And if my women don't treat me right, I won't be back at all

C C Rider, where you been all night?
C C Rider, where you been all night?
Well your head's all messed up and your pants don't fit you right

And now mamma, I can't stand it no more
And now mamma, I can't stand it no more
I get so strange peeking through the keyhole in your door

Spencer Davis sang it this way when he joined the Dead on stage 10 December 1989:

_______________________________________________

Easy rider, see what you done done
Easy rider, see what you done done
You made me love you, and now your man done come

Well I'm goin' away honey, and I won't be back till fall
I'm goin' away, I won't be back till fall
I don't want to see you round my door at all

I wish I was a catfish, swimming in the deep blue sea
I wish I was a catfish, swimming in the deep blue sea
I'd keep on swimming, to keep your tricks rom me

Easy rider, see what you done done
Easy rider, see what you done done
You made me love you, and now your man done come
