Caspar Brotzmann and his band "Massakar" is to
German heavy music as Jimi Hendrix was to the experience. Both are fabulous guitar players. Both create mesmorizing epic soundscapes. But Caspar plays such stuff as to cause the bones in the back of your head to vibrate, and I doubt even Jimi did that.
The sound and vibration of Caspar playing his characteristic Fender Stratocaster through something like 4 8x12 Marshall 200 watt stacks is a masochistic pleasure. The exhilarating monstrosities swirl and push you back over a rythmic repition of drums and bass, providing a very primal fuge of noise and beauty.
And he's a complete kook, to boot. He stands at least 6'3, thick black hair, the northern German through and through. If you like The Swans, Einstürzende Neubauten , early SPK, or Big Black, you will love this. Not sure if he is still around though.
