Part of a constitiution which is not written down as law. The British Constitution (and most constitutions derived from it other than the US Consitution) use conventions to a substantial degree. The Canadian Constitution for instance would appear to be a medieval monarchy if the Constitution Acts were read without knowledge of the conventions which shift power to for a Responsible Government.
