Deathtrack was a DOS game developed by Dynamix and released by Activision in 1989.

The concept behind the game is pretty easy: Choose a car, outfit it with weapons, then race. Blow up anyone in your way. Use money won from each race to upgrade your car. Buy bigger weapons. Blow more stuff up. Repeat ad nauseum.

Deathtrack was pretty graphically rich for the time, it featured 16 color EGA graphics, and polygonal models were used for the cars and other objects on the road. There were many different weapons available for purchase like wheel spikes, caltrops, machine guns, rockets, lasers, particle beams, and my all time favorite, terminators. The terminators were these little motorized bombs you dropped out on the track; they'd start pursuing the car directly in front of you, try to get underneath it, and blow it up. I remember that they would miss a lot, sometimes they would go all the way AROUND the track and come up from behind and hit YOU...

It did get repetitious after a while, though it did appeal to me because I was able to do what I wanted to do in real life, and that's blow inspid morons off the road ...
