Visiting a friend with studio space. Working on papier-mâché forms; a mask, a lantern. Mine is a bowl, or hopefully it will become one as it dries and the edges are made stronger. Latticing strips of a map of Brisbane with remnant strips of fabric from patchwork projects. Hands and clothes dyed red with tissue-paper ink.

We discussed the role of creative spaces in our community, brewing ideas for a cooperative studio space. We also talked about creative jobs and how to find or make them, online sales and local markets.

I gave Julie a placemat with a design of butterflies and salvia. She has given me a terracotta planter with a dark plant. Small plum coloured leaves contrast with the warm textures of the clay.

Back home to work on some more placemats. Painting patterns, leaves, flowers, sticks, the fine grained forms of eucalypt leaf litter.

Feeling introspective. More words turn from my fingers than my mouth. Mind is churning with little to show for it. I imagine a circus image of a baggy pants clown pedalling on a very small bicycle. No useful way forwards. No apparent solutions. Keep pedalling, wait and see.
