Digital Terrain Modelling DTM is major part of Geographical Information Systems.

A DTM is generally used to represent the surface of the earth. There are two main formats for representing this type of data: The Digital Elevation Model(DEM) and the Triangular Irregular Network(TIN)

The DEM formats is closely identified with the raster data type, whilst the TIN is mainly identified with the vector data type.
