Duane Eddy, born in New York in 1938, is one of the great guitarists/rock instrumentalists of all time. His trademark guitar is a red Gretsch, and the sound is twangy, though definitely not surf guitar. Rebel Rouser was the first big album he made, on Dick Clark's "Jamie" label. He had 14 top forty hits between 1958 and 1963, appeared in a movie called Because They're Young (also the title of his most popular song), and recorded the theme song for Paladin. "Forty Miles of Bad Road" is my favorite piece of his and goes on about any road trip mix that I make. Eddy is still active; some of his recent work includes contributions to the soundtrack of Broken Arrow.
