Everything You’ve Done Wrong is a song by Sloan, which was featured in the film The Virgin Suicides along with four other songs by the same band. This however, is the only one that made it onto the official soundtrack. Oddly enough, the film was set in the mid- to late- seventies, yet this song was on the 1996 album One Chord To Another. But it fits in bouncily and snappily with the seventies mood, it’s like pre-disco Bee Gees. The song is some sort of a sweet, bopping proclamation which is played in the car while the four girls with their dates are on their way to the homecoming dance, their first. They speak snidely and sweetly about nazi sympathisers and the neighbour’s aluminum sidings, it’s a party mood and very airy and surreal, with strange afternoon light, and that sense of heady anticipation that always comes with your first school dance.

Sloan explains how they ended up becoming involved with the film:
"It's kind of odd how things came about. When we were in L.A. in the spring to play our show, we were out having a few drinks with one of the guys from the band Air, and he was talking about this soundtrack. And then Sofia Coppola (the director) came out to see the show. And we basically said she could use whatever she wanted."

Everything You’ve Done Wrong

Do your time, to pay the price
For every thing you've done wrong, baby
In your life, you get so high
There's nowhere left to go but down
Don't believe that no one cares
'Cause we're here waiting for you, baby
Do your time
and then come home for good

So don't hide yourself away
Let it shine, let it shine
Don't hide yourself away
Let it shine

If you ever feel in doubt
You have a place in my heart, baby
If I ever feel left out
I know I've got a place in yours
Don't believe that I wouldn't dare
To go and take you right back, baby
Do your time
And then come home for good

So don't hide yourself away
Let it shine, let it shine
Don't hide yourself away
Let it shine, let it shine
Don't hide yourself away
Let it shine, let it shine
Don't hide yourself away

Do your time, to pay the price
For every thing you've done wrong, baby
In your life, you get so high
There's nowhere left to go but down
Don't believe that no one cares
'Cause we're here waiting for you, baby
Do your time, and then come home for good
Do your time, and then come home for good
Do your time, and then come home for good

GangstaFeelsGood says that this song sounds remarkably like Chicago (in a good way) :)
