I've got an actual
Fisher Price toaster, from the late 80s or early 90s. It's plastic, and rather predictably doesn't actually toast bread. It doesn't even have a spring, you have to manually move a lever up and down.
What's more intriguing is what came with it: two pieces of plastic bread. As a three or so year old the appeal of these objects for chewing must have been enormous, but the hardness of the plastic could have made it a fairly painful excercise.
Without any young siblings this is now residing in the cellar, in a dark corner, next to the fuse box.
I suppose nowadays a Fisher Price toaster might be more fancy, and equipped with fancy gadetry, but I can't see why children supposedly need so much sophistication to stimulate their minds compared to yesteryear.
