Garage Days is a
film released in
2002 and directed by the
Australian director Alex Proyas. It chronicles the turbulent life of a group of twenty-somethings trying to get their band into the fantasy world of rock stardom.
The movie is shot in and around Sydney's Newtown, Glebe and Sydney University, and thus was very well received in Sydney. Newtown is a suburb which has a high student population as well as a host of liberal minded adults (for example political activists, environmentalists, ex-communists).
The film's chief stars are Kick Gurry, Maya Stange, Pia Miranda, Russell Dykstra and Brett Stiller.
I thought this film was smart, witty and very cynical, but also humanistic and poignant (if that makes any sense). I also live in Newtown and like the work of Alex Proyas, so I am slightly biased in this regard.
