This sf/f
book by Alfred Bester is one of the best I have ever
read, along with
The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy Trilogy.
It
opens with Regina and her
bee ladies in the (not too) near
future trying to
summon up the
devil as a
pastime to relieve the
boredom of life in the
upper-class. By the time you have finished, though, the
scary plot combined with the
amazing illustrations will completely
screw your mind up, even worse than the ending of
So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish.
I don't want to give away the
plot, but if you ever see this
book in a
bookshop,
buy it immediately because it is
seriously
mind-
fucking.
