Grigori is the name of the
octopus that
Ned Pointsman and
Roger Mexico train to
attack Katje, the
kinky secret agent, in
Thomas Pynchon's novel
Gravity's Rainbow. They force
Grigori to watch
movies of an
octopus attacking a woman over and over.
This is where I learned that an octopus can function perfectly well even after entire sections of its brain have been removed. This is why octopi are often used in brain research experiments. Remove half a brain and an octopus still knows the best way of killing a crab.
