A town in Noord-Holland, west of Amsterdam, the Netherlands; first mentioned in 1245. Its population, decreasing is around 150.000.

Haarlem is known in Dutch history from the 7-month siege in 1572-1573, during the 80-year war, the Dutch war of indepencence against Spain.

Today it is mostly known for its St. Bavo cathedral.
