Hasil Adkins is a
rockabilly god and, perhaps, the
world's greatest one man band. Bashing away on his
guitar while stomping on drum pedals and rambling on about
chicken (
sex/
sexy women, that is), Adkins is somehow the
pure embodiment of
rock 'n roll. Or maybe, he's the opposite of pure, like when something is distilled and there are solids left behind. Hasil Adkins'
music is what's left when you
distill rock music.
Did I mention his obsession with chicken? In 1955 he recorded the song Chicken Walk. That was followed over the years by such notable works as Chicken Hop, Chicken Twist, Chicken Flop, Chicken Wobble, and Chicken Run.
Anyway, he's a genius.
