I made a dance today,
In the kitchen,
On those old linoleum floors,
Those cold, old linoleum floors
In my bare feet.
In front of the back window,
Watching the robins and the sparrows,
I twisted and twirled and moved.
I was thinking of flowing water
And falling water
And air and sky and space.
The music was the song of birds
The audience was nature itself
And the birds
(If they cared to see).
I made a dance today.
I made it, danced it, and now it's over,
Barely a memory
And even that will fade
By tomorrow.
