visiting a sick Aunt and some old friends 

someone asked if we used to "go out"

I said I think so

which they thought was funny

In my mind we were friends, then more, then nothing

a series of months that lasted days,

then minutes

someone said 

you live Out West now,  but did not know the town

I looked away and pretended I was not listening
