InfraRed Astronomy is the study of Astronomical Objects in the InfraRed Spectrum. This is done mostly with satellite based telescopes, such as NICMOS on the HST, since the Earth's Atmosphere Filters IR Radiation.

There is also a plan to put an array of IR Telescopes on the surface of the moon for observing purposes.
