Protagonist of anime OAV Macross Plus, the most recent offering set in the Robotech/Macross universe. Isamu Dyson is a hot-shot Veritech pilot who annoys his superiors in the United Nations Spacy (short for Space Navy, natch) one too many times, and ends up getting assigned to the often-fatal duty of Test Pilot. He is assigned to test the YF-19, a prototype Veritech fighter which has killed all of its previous test pilots. Things go sideways from there. Many people have drawn attention to the obvious similarities between Isamu Dyson and Tom Cruise's character in Top Gun... indeed, Top Gun and Macross Plus are very much alike in many ways.
