A company whose name has become synonymous with
recliners of all brands. According to their corporate web site,
la-z-boy.com, the name was chosen in a contest; other entries included
Slack-Back,
Comfort Carrier and
Sit-N-Snooze.
The company started just before the Great Depression of the 1930s. In the 1950s, they introduced the feature for which La-Z-Boy chairs have become known: the footrest that extends out from a panel on the front of the chair.
Their latest model, the Oasis, is a couch potato's dream. It has an electric cooler built one of the armrests, a telephone with Caller ID, and ten separate motors to massage the chair's owner into a pile of happily quivering jelly.
