A legionnaire usually refers to any soldier serving in The French Foreign Legion, although other legions have existed. The french legionnaire has commited himself to a five-year contract with monsieur le President, and is through harsh training and hundreds of gallons of French beer transformed from a timid milkman into an elite soldier who speaks poor French - brave, tough, almost constantly drunk, and utterly skilled in the art of war.
