A simple pink seafood sauce containing mayonnaise and ketchup. Other ingredients sometimes added include lemon, tabasco, Worcestershire sauce and pepper. The origin of the name is uncertain, but the OED suggests it derives from its rose colour. The sauce is most commonly used to dress prawn cocktails.
DTal mentions it goes well with avocados, too, generally as part of a larger seafood dish.
