Nalo Hopkinson is a science fiction and fantasy writer. She has lived in Toronto, Canada for most of her adult life, but she was born and spent her childhood and teenage years in the Caribbean (mainly in Jamaica and Trinidad). Her writing reflects her hybrid nationality, and her fiction is often written in Caribbean dialect. Her stories and novels blend magic and high-tech SF, utopia and dystopia.

Her works include the critically-accalimed novels Brown Girl in the Ring and Midnight Robber and the collection Skin Folk. She has also edited the anthology Whispers From the Cotton Tree Root: Caribbean Fabulist Fiction.
