Norbert is
Norwegian Ridgeback dragon hatched from an egg by
Hagrid, the
Hogwarts groundskeeper, in the first
Harry Potter book,
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Norbert turned out to be too much for Hagrid, Harry, and his friends to handle, so he had to be smuggled out of Hogwarts to Egypt.
Norbert is just one of many dangerous
magical creatures that Hagrid raises in the book series. Seems he has a soft spot for
man eating, firebreathing monsters.
