When November's witches come searching for souls...

What Great Lakes mariners call the often powerful and deadly storms common on those waters in November.

Seasonal wind shifts at this time often create powerful low pressure systems with hurricane-like force. Of the 350-odd ships littering the bottom of Lake Superior, most of these were caused by November witches.

The Edmund Fitzgerald sank under the fury of a November witch, and was immortalized in a song by Gordon Lightfoot, The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald.
