Wax can be easily removed from clothing by soaking the wax spot with kerosene or a petroleum-based liquid for about five minutes. The clothing should then be rinsed in water and shampoo or detergent, unless a flammable odor is desired.

I was taught that the proper way to remove wax from clothing is to sandwich the wax between paper towels and use a warm iron to melt it out. What happens is that the wax melts and is absorbed by the paper towels.
