A village in the Aude, some 930 km south from Paris.

Occupied by Gauls, later by Romans and Visigoths.

Berenger Sauniere was the village priest of Rennes-le-Chateau from 1886 until his death in 1917. He is responsible for the appearence of many of its buildings, including the Church, the Villa Bethania, and the Tour Magdala.

He is also responsible for the coachloads of tourists who flock there every day, hoping to find the Holy Grail, and also the number of occult bookshops to be found there.

Rennes was also the setting for the game Gabriel Knight 3.
