The rusty-spotted cat (Felis rubiginosa) is the smallest feline species in existence; at around 2 pounds in weight and 7 inches in height, they have been called the hummingbird of cats. They only live in Sri Lanka and parts of India, and as the name implies, have brown fur with darker brown spots. They live in a variety of habitats but seem to enjoy climbing trees (and into the rafters of huts, where they can catch pests). They are nocturnal and are caught for food in Sri Lanka by shining flashlights into their eyes to blind them. They are also killed sometimes when they are mistaken for the kittens of larger species. Destruction of their habitat is also a problem.
