Sally Ann Thunder Ann Whirlwind Crockett was a fearless woman. She could yell louder than anyone, was as smart as they come, and stronger than can be imagined. Sally Ann is also an American tall tale. Sally Ann married Davey Crockett after saving his life when he got his head stuck in a tree. Davey Crockett, incidentally is not just a tall tale. He really existed, and served in Congress from 1827 to 1835. Anyway, back to Sally Ann. Sally Ann and Davey had 10 children, which Sally Ann raised alone while Davey was off in Washington DC. Sally kept the home fires burning, fought off attacking alligators and foiled practical joker Mike Fink when he attempted to prove that Sally Ann really wasn't as fearless as Davey claimed.

Sally Ann Thunder Ann Whirlwind Crockettis also a wonderful childrens' book written and illustrated by Steven Kellogg. Kellogg also wrote books about other American Tall Tales including Paul Bunyan, Pecos Bill, Mike Fink, and Johnny Appleseed. The pictures are great, the text is fun to read, the message is positive, and above all...it's just fun to say...Sally Ann Thunder Ann Whirlwind Crockett.
