CityCapital of the state of
San Luis Potosí, it was founded in 1583. It was the seat of
Benito Juárez' government during the French Intervention (1861-1867). It was also in
San Luis Potosí where
Fransisco Madero drew up his
Plan of San Luis Potosí (1910), the document which contained the goals for the Mexican Revolution (including the No Reelection Clause). Population (1990) = 489,238; (2000 estimate) = 628,134
StateBounded on the south by
Guanajuato,
Querétaro and
Hidalgo, on the east by
Nuevo León,
Tamaulipas, and
Veracruz, on the north by
Coahuila, and on the west by
Zacatecas. The state is rich with silver (it is home to some of the richest silver mines in
