Thirty years ago, way back in
November 2000
Astronomers first sighted the
asteroid that is about
to hit the earth today. It remains to be seen whether
this lump of rock will disintegrate on impact with
the atmosphere or whether it will hit the surface causing general unpleasantness (even the end of
everything?).
This asteroid is the first ever to receive a rating on the ten point Torino scale. It receives the lowest rating ,1,
due to its small size. With a then predicted one in 500
chance of hitting the earth this is quite serious. It is
however mitigated by its relatively small size, about that
of average office block. Several million might perish
but McDonald's is sure to survive (no justice from space then).
The only thing left to say is welcome to earth SG344
