A Star Schema is a database model primarily used with a data warehouse. It stores traditional numeric information in a central table called a fact table. This fact table contains foreign keys to the dimensional, or lookup tables, which contain textual information, such as customer name, address, product, or date. When an OLAP tool generates SQL, it links only to the tables necessary for the particular query.
