A full-time assistant Bishop. 1

In the Church of England each diocese is, of course, headed by a Diocesan Bishop but the Diocesan Bishop generally has either one or two Suffragan Bishops to assist in the business of providing the episcopal and pastoral leadership to the Diocese.

So for example;

1 As opposed to an Assistant Bishop, which is simply an honorary post for a retired Bishop.
