Super Bowl XVII|Super Bowl XIX
January 22, 1984
A blocked punt early in the first quarter gave the Raiders their first score, and they never looked back as they went on to win a lopsided victory against the defending champion Redskins.
Los Angeles running back and Super Bowl MVP Marcus Allen set a new Super Bowl record for rushing yardage, carrying the ball 20 times for a total of 191 yards, including a 74 yard touchdown run. The Raiders defense also did its job, limiting Washington to just 9 points, and forcing three critical turnovers.
Attendance for the game was 72,780. LA coach Tom Flores was head coach for the Raiders, while Joe Gibbs headed up the 'skins.
