The talamaur is a vampirelike creature said to inhabit the Banks Islands in the South Pacific. The talamaur is described as a soul, or tarunga, that would eat the life lingering outside the body of a person who was recently deceased. It is also used to describe a living person who would eat the corpse of a newly dead person with the understanding that the ghost would use their power against anyone to whom he was directed.
