Three-putt(golf term)

When a golfer, reaching the green in regulation(i.e. allowing two putter strokes to make par, for example being on the green of a par four in two strokes) takes three strokes to put the ball in the hole. The bane of mid-handicappers trying to shoot lower scores. Often leading to florid cursing and self-abuse.
