One of
Joel Schumacher's few good films, Tigerland is about the experiences of a group of soldiers at a
U.S. Army training camp for Advanced
Infantry, called Tigerland, their last stop before entering
Vietnam, during the
Vietnam War. Actually, much of the movie takes place before they reach Tigerland.
Colin Farrell gives an excellent performance as a soldier trying to get kicked out of the army before he gets shipped off to war, while
Matthew Davis plays an intelligent, young writer who enlisted in order to find out more about himself.
The movie is reminiscent of
Platoon,
Full Metal Jacket, and even of
One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest.
Highly recommended if you like
war movies.
