Season 1891/92

There had been talk of a professional southern league for around 5 years by the 1891/92 season but at the time professional in football was looked upon in the same light professionalism is looked on in the Olympics even today. The London Football Association was quite adamant; any team turning professional would be suspended. Despite this, a meeting was held and 12 teams were provisionally elected. Spurs, however, came last with only a single vote, presumably their own. As it happened, nothing came of this meeting. The London FA's threat of suspension had worked.
