Visual Black Book is a
technical series put out by CoriolisOpen Press. What sets this
series apart is that it is almost like a picture-book for the
computer-
illiterate. Using the
visual examples, it walks you through a project step-by-step,
keystroke for keystroke.
I own two, Setting Up a Linux Intranet Server and one for Internet Server. CDs are included in the book, and contains copies of Red Hat, Apache, plus everything else mentioned in the procedures. They also include an FTP server and Mail server for completeness. They are well-written, if lacking in any background. It will get you through setting a Linux server, but maintaining it and doing security work still requires you understand the components, not just how to copy and type out of the book.
