Weasand remains a formal term used in the butchering industry for the windpipe of the cow, commercially important because it regularly included in the cuts sold as ground beef. The word is also used as a verb: weasanding means the removal of the windpipe (just as bunging means the clean removal of the bung).

Wea"sand (?), n. [OE. wesand, AS. wasend; akin to OFries. wasende, wasande; cf. OHG. weisunt.]

The windpipe; -- called also, formerly, wesil.

[Formerly, written also, wesand, and wezand.]

Cut his weasand with thy knife. Shak.
