A
strange website/
company I stumbled on while searching for
information on
homing pigeons. Their only apparent
service is releasing "
doves" which are actually
homing pigeons at
weddings,
funerals, and other "
special" events. They also do a
big release of
doves at the opening of
Dodger Stadium every year.
For some reason this really creeps me out. I can't exactly put my finger on it but there is something so false and arbitrary about releasing a bunch of pigeons trained to come back at someone's gravesite that really bothers me. Maybe there is just something false about the symbolism here or the idea of a tribute/sacrifice made for someone that you can reuse endlessly.
