How to be successful, and get people to like you (especially girls), as told to Mark Salzman by one of his Chinese students in his autobiographical book Iron and Silk.
If there is only one meme I manage to help spread through my species, I'd like this to be it. This strikes me as a brilliant anti-strategy, far superior to any other I've come across. Interesting in that is exactly the opposite of my old strategy, which involved trying to impress everyone with my cynical wit, face down anyone I imagined was trying to take advantage of me, and scale the ladder of success with as little actual work as possible.
The student goes on to describe the difficulty of eating and sleeping, in comparison to the ease of success and popularity. I'll call myself happy when I've mastered all four.
